“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.  It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.  Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.  It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.  Love never fails.”

January Blues: Fluency Passage and Comprehension Activities

This is an original fluency passage I wrote and 3 comprehension and extension activities to accompany it. This packet includes a teacher copy that you can print in color and reuse. It also includes a black and white copy that you can print off for each student and record their scores on it. There are low level comprehension questions for day 1, medium/high level comprehension questions for day 2, and an “I Sing the Blues When…” half sheet writing template for day 3.

***This fluency passage and comprehension questions are included in the Fluency and Comprehension Reading Intervention for All Seasons – Second Grade Level packet.***

*How to Use*
This was designed to use as a reading intervention using the hot, warm and cold read strategy. It would look something like this:

Day 1: Cold read, discussion, first page of comprehension questions (Lower levels of Blooms Taxonomy including Remembering and Understanding)
Day 2: Warm read, discussion, second page of comprehension questions (Middle levels of Blooms Taxonomy including Applying and Analyzing)
Day 3: Hot read, discussion, “I Sing the Blues When…” writing prompt template (Highest levels of Blooms Taxonomy including Evaluating and Creating). There is also a fun *free* reinforcement “Build A Snowman” game that you can use to reinforce vocabulary, sight words, etc. on day 3.  It is from the store of Erica Haber. Check out the link below.
