Spring Fluency Close Reading Passages & Comprehension Activities {Garden Bugs}

This bundle contains 5 original fluency passages I wrote and 3-4 comprehension and extension activities to accompany each one. The theme is garden creatures and it is just right for spring time!  The passages are all nonfiction informational text and I used real photographs of nature to illustrate the text!

Using one fluency passage per week, this would provide interventions for 5 weeks.  You could also focus on one fluency passage per day, depending on your needs and schedule. These materials could be used as whole group or small group fluency instruction or as homework.  For each passage there is a teacher copy that you can print in color and reuse. There is also a black and white copy that you can print off for each student and record their scores on it. The comprehension questions and activities allow students to spend time on each selection and participate in close reading strategies to build reading skills. It draws upon Bloom’s Taxonomy to encourage higher levels of thinking skills.

Flesch Kincaid Readability Grade Levels range from 4.2-4.5 and are in chronological order. They are all on a fourth grade reading level.

*Suggestion for Use for Small Group Intervention*
These fluency passages, comprehension questions and extension activities can be used as a reading intervention using the hot, warm and cold read strategy. For each week and fluency passage, it would look something like this:

Day 1: Cold read, discussion, comprehension questions (Lower levels of Blooms Taxonomy including Remembering and Understanding)
Day 2: Warm read, discussion, comprehension questions or activity (Middle levels of Blooms Taxonomy including Applying and Analyzing)
Day 3: Hot read, discussion, extension activity (Highest levels of Blooms Taxonomy including Evaluating and Creating).

The genres of the fluency passages are all non-fiction, informational text. The materials in this packet are aligned to several fourth Grade Common Core Language Arts standards.

I tried to make the fluency passages a little more fun and interesting than other ones I’ve used. I included my fluency progress monitoring graph to track students’ fluency progress with this packet. I also included labels for file folders to create “fluency files” for each student.

I also tried to make this a great value for you!

Fluency & Comprehension Reading Intervention Bundle for Grades 3-5

“This might be my favorite TPT resource of all time. Thanks so much!”

“THIS IS A MUST! I love having these to use.”

Wanna know what all the fuss is about?  Fluency & Comprehension Reading Intervention Bundle for Grades 3-5.

I created this bundle for those of us who provide reading intervention for multiple grade levels. This bundle includes the Fluency and Comprehension Reading Intervention for All Seasons Third, Fourth and Fifth Grade Packets.

medium-1272823-2 medium-1272823-3 medium-1272823-4

Flesch Kincaid Readability Grade Levels range from 3.1-3.9 for the third grade packet, 4.1-4.9 for the fourth grade packet and 5.1-5.9 for the fifth grade packet. They are all in chronological order.

Each of the 3 packets contains 35 original fluency passages I wrote and 2-3 comprehension and extension activities to accompany each one. Using one fluency passage per week, this would provide interventions for the whole school year, for 3 grade levels.

*How to Use*
These fluency passages, comprehension questions and extension activities were designed to use as a reading intervention using the hot, warm and cold read strategy.

It is always my goal to design the intervention to follow this format, but it is easier with some text and activities than others.
These materials could be used in other ways as well including as whole group fluency instruction or as homework. The genres of the fluency passages include poetry, fiction and informational text. The materials in this packet are aligned to several Third, Fourth, and Fifth Grade Common Core Language Arts standards.

I also try to make the fluency passages a little more fun than other ones I’ve used. I included my fluency progress monitoring graph to track students’ fluency progress with this packet. I also included labels for file folders to create “fluency files” for each student. For each packet there are also 3 pages of ideas for creation/extension activities for day 3.

Of course, I wanted to make this a great value for you. You are getting the 3 grade level packets for over 20% off the discounted price and over 40% off the original price.

***This packet includes any Third, Fourth or Fifth Grade Fluency Passage that is sold individually in my store. ***

I Can’t Explain How Much I Love My Children {Worship Wednesday}

My children are so amazing.  Says every mom ever.

But when I look at my sweet children, I see masterpieces.  They are so beautiful and they inspire me so much.  Yesterday my son insisted that he and his baby sister wear their matching Christmas jammies.  I realize it was St. Patrick’s Day yesterday, but I kinda liked the idea myself.  So matching Christmas jammies it was. It even inspired me to create a new Christmas themed product for my TPT store. {Stay tuned!}  During nap time, they were both sleeping on my bed next to each other and I just admired them for a moment.  I felt overwhelmed by the love in my heart I have for them and a surge of pride ran through me.

My children are just. so. amazing.  I can’t explain how much I love them.

And I thank God for them everyday, multiple times.  They make my life so happy, complete and wonderful.

We are currently finishing our basement thanks to my father-in-law slash handy man extraordinaire and it is going to be awesome.  I can’t wait to spend time with my family and watch my children play down there.  We are even putting in a half bath, which will be super nice for my kiddos.  😉

I decided I wanted to contribute to the basement finishing by creating some fine bathroom artwork.  I was praying about my children and thanking God for them when I read this verse.

So I illustrated it and I am going to matte and frame it with a white frame and put it right behind the potty.  Just another reminder of how good God is and how thankful I am for my babies.  Feel free to use it in your bathroom (or anywhere!) by downloading the file here.

It would also be so cool in a classroom.  Perfect, don’t you think?

ALL children are amazing,

BECAUSE they were made in the image of God.

I hope you have a happy rest of the week.

Once Upon A Time… Time Telling Activities to the Nearest Minute & Story Problems

I recently created another Telling Time unit to complete the trilogy.  🙂  This “Once Upon A Time” packet has a fairy tale theme with castles, magic wands and frogs. It is aligned with the third grade common core standard for telling and writing time to the nearest minute and solving word problems involving addition and subtraction of time intervals in minutes, e.g., by representing the problem on a number line diagram.  Click on the picture for the link to the product in my TpT store!

This packet contains 4 pages of analog clock flashcards and 2 pages of digital time flashcards with matching times to the nearest minute that can be used for practice, assessment, matching or memory games. There are 10 pages of worksheets where students write the time to match to analog clock shown. There are 10 pages of worksheets where students draw the hands on the clock to match the digital time given. There are 10 pages of time telling story problems where students add or subtract intervals of time. “There is a time for everything,
and a season for every activity under the heavens:

a time to be born and a time to die,
a time to plant and a time to uproot,
a time to kill and a time to heal,
a time to tear down and a time to build,
a time to weep and a time to laugh,
a time to mourn and a time to dance,
a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them,
a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing,
a time to search and a time to give up,
a time to keep and a time to throw away,
a time to tear and a time to mend,
a time to be silent and a time to speak,
a time to love and a time to hate,
a time for war and a time for peace.

What do workers gain from their toil?  I have seen the burden God has laid on the human race.  He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end.”
