Free Mother’s Day MATH Craftivity? YES.

This file contains 2 different math craftivities that can be used in 2 different ways. There is one page of the Percentage Poem template and mom coloring activity included. Students can write a percentage poem by identifying 5 things that make up their mom and assigning each a percent. Then students can color the MOM sign and add their picture to the heart if you’d like. There is one page of the Mom Fraction template, where students can identify 4 things that make up quarters of their mom. Then students can color the MOM sign and add their picture to the heart if you’d like. There are also pages that contain each of the templates only, and a page with craft outlines to make the Mom sign using colored paper. You can also add a picture in the heart as in the picture of the cover page.

Based on the standards, the Mom Fraction math craftivity would be more appropriate for younger students while the Percentage Poem math craftivity would be more appropriate for older students.

When God looks down on the word “mom”

you know what he sees?

Spring Haikus

Some of my students wrote haikus this week about spring and they turned out awesome!  I wrote one as an example and all my students’ poems were better than mine.  Here are some of my favorites.

Fishing

You will need wax worms
Fishing Poles will be needed
Catch the biggest one

Grass

Grass can be itchy
Ladybugs live in the grass
Grass is always green

Thunderstorms

Dark clouds piling up
Lightening flashes in the sky
Should we go inside?

Aren’t they good?  I am so proud.  They really enjoyed writing these.  They didn’t seem to realize they were working on things like handwriting,  correct spacing and spelling!  Here is the template we used and little background information about haiku poetry.

Haiku Activity

I’m not sure if I should hang these on the spring bulletin board I made or if I should put them together and make a book.
